In a triumphant day for IAFF members across the United States, key provisions protecting fire fighters have been included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Neil and Genna McMillan, both members of Ottawa, ON Local 162, dedicated 1,000 workouts over the last 1,000 days to honor IAFF members who died in the line of duty from an occupational illness or hazard. 

The Canadian Government has recognized five IAFF members for supporting first responders’ mental health.

Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM) President Emeritus Robert a, a strong IAFF leader and labor champion, has died.

The House passed legislation Dec. 1 directing the federal government to develop guidance for fire fighters on best practices to prevent PFAS exposure on the job. The Protecting Firefighters from Adverse Substances (PFAS) Act, sponsored by Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), now awaits President Joe Biden’s signature.

After three years of strong advocacy work by Huntsville, AL Local 1833 leaders, the City of Huntsville enacted a revised pay plan ensuring fire fighters will now make equitable wages. The changes gave most Local 1833 members between a 6 and 25 percent raise.

The Center for Firefighter Injury Research and Safety Trends (FIRST) at Drexel University, a frequent research collaborator with the IAFF, is being honored by the Delta Omega Honorary Society  in Public Health with an Innovative Public Health Curriculum “Honorable Mention” award.

President Joe Biden is expected to sign the First Responders Fair RETIRE Act after the Senate unanimously passed the legislation Nov. 17. The new law will protect federal fire fighter retirement benefits in case of debilitating injury or illness.
