How to become a Peer Fitness Trainer or F2T Instructor

Explains the two pathways in the IAFF Fit to Thrive program — becoming a certified Peer Fitness Trainer (PFT) by taking the F2T 101 course, or becoming an F2T Instructor who teaches the course.

More

The IAFF Fit to Thrive (F2T) program offers two different pathways depending on your goal.

Become a certified Peer Fitness Trainer (PFT)

The F2T 101 Fitness Principles and Practice course prepares fire fighters to assess, design, and lead fitness programs for their department. Completing it earns you the PFT Certificate.

  • Courses are offered in-person, virtually, and online

  • Register and view upcoming sessions at fittothrive.ca/f2t101-live

Become an F2T Instructor

F2T Instructors are appointed by the IAFF General President and deliver F2T courses to other fire fighters. This is a selective process and the IAFF does not expand its instructor roster every year.

  • Review the qualifications and requirements in the F2T Instructor Application Form at iaff.org/fit-to-thrive

  • Applications must be submitted by March 31 to be considered for that calendar year

  • If approved as a candidate, instructors are required to teach at least two four-day F2T courses per year and attend the annual three-day IAFF Instructor Development Conference (IDC)
