24th Canadian Legislative Conference

#iaffcdnleg

Dear IAFF Leader,

When Canada’s new federal government was elected 16 months ago, it was elected on a wave of commitments to act on two issues that are extremely important to us as professional fire fighters – a Public Safety Officer Compensation (PSOC) benefit and a national strategy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Liberals’ election signalled a new era for public safety and a new era of respect for working Canadians. And since the election, the IAFF has worked closely with the federal government as a key stakeholder to help move these issues forward. We’re excited to see such progress on these important issues, but they’re not done yet.

At the same time, we are still waiting for action on another key issue – the need to recognize fire fighter safety as a core objective in the National Building Code. In addition, we are tracking other emerging issues that affect fire fighter and public safety.

The 24th Canadian Legislative Conference in Ottawa is our opportunity to thank Liberal MPs for the work they have done on our Canadian legislative agenda and to remind MPs from all parties that there’s still work to be done and other issues on our legislative agenda that need attention.

I hope you will ensure your local is represented at the 24th Canadian Legislative Conference. I look forward to seeing you there.

Harold A. Schaitberger
General President
