Reading, Pennsylvania accepting applications for fire fighters, EMT and paramedics

The Fire Civil Service Board of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania announces that applications are now being accepted for the position of Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic in the Reading Fire Department.

Printed applications are available from either Fire Administration or Human Resources located in City Hall, 815 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601 or at the office of the Solicitor, Stephen H. Price, Esquire, 520 Walnut Street, Reading, PA 19601.

Applications must be completed and returned in person to Stephen H. Price, Esquire, Solicitor, 520 Walnut Street, Reading, PA 19601 (610-376-1515) by close of business (4:00 p.m.) on March 9, 2012. The application must be accompanied with a check or money order made payable to the City of Reading in the amount of $50.00.

The top 75 scores in both categories and those with Veteran's Preference will move forward with the physical agility testing.

City of Bethlehem, PA accepting fire fighter applications

The City of Bethlehem, PA is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter. The Fire Civil Service Entrance Examination will be conducted Saturday, March 24, 2012. The starting annual salary is $39,726. To apply, you must:
• Be a citizen of the U.S. or possess naturalization papers
• Be at least 18 years of age and not more than 35 years of age on March 7, 2012
• Possess a H.S. diploma or G.E.D.
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Application forms and Civil Service Vouchers may be obtained from the HR Bureau at 10 E. Church St., Bethlehem, PA, M-F, 8 AM to 4 PM, or online.

Prince William County, VA Department of Fire and Rescue seeking fire fighters and EMTs or medics


Prince William County, VA Department of Fire and Rescue have openings for fire fighter/emergency medical technician or medics. The positions are full time and the salary range is $44,968.82 - $52,326/year. If you are VA or National EMT-I/99 or EMT-P certified, you will be given hiring preference and earn an additional $5,397 per year incentive plus per hour supplement pay. These positions perform responsible protective service work involving fire suppression, rescue, basic life support, salvage and/or fire prevention. Certain assignments will require the performance of advanced life support medical care. The selection process will start with a written test in May for a projected hire date of January 2013. Grand Prairie seeking fire fighters

The City of Grand Prairie, Texas will be testing for entry level Firefighters on March 31, 2012.
Applications will be accepted until March 23, 2012. Salary: $47,916 - $65,833 annually.
Only those meeting the following requirements are eligible:

Corpus Christi hiring fire fighters and paramedics

The Corpus Christi, Texas Fire Department is accepting applications for a fire fighter/paramedic position until February 16.

National Fire Protection Association seeks Emergency Specialist

The National Fire Protection Association is seeking an emergency specialist.

Principal Responsibilities:
Technical Committees – Manages moderately complex technical committee activities and projects throughout document development process, serving as technical committee staff liaison in compliance with the NFPA Standards Development Process.
Product development – Oversees all content development and review of product development activities acting as technical expert in support of any product development within area of expertise.
Technical services – Provides technical assistance on moderately complex questions in support of internal and external Association activities to support adoption and use of assigned projects and maintains knowledge of new developments in support of incumbent's technical proficiency.
External liaison – Represents the Association in a liaison role with federal, state, and local officials in support of their adoption of NFPA codes and standards and works with other standards development organizations to coordinate related standards activities.
Cross-functional activities – Participates in related Association cross-functional activities providing technical review and input within area of expertise to meet Association goals.
Special Projects – Manages special projects as assigned within area of technical expertise.
Budgetary criteria – Provides required budgetary information for assigned projects.

Bachelor's degree in realted field such as public administration or fire science.
3 – 5 years experience.
Proven project management experience and excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and writing skills are important.

Fire-Based Emergency Medical Services Specialist

The IAFF is seeking a Fire-Based Emergency Medical Services Specialist. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive evaluations and detailed analysis of emergency medical response systems using customized research, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) assessment and interviews with IAFF affiliate leaders, fire chiefs, EMS officials and politicians. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of emergency medical response systems and fire operations staffing and deployment.

The successful candidate will develop and provide technical assistance to affiliates regarding changes to enhance EMS delivery; provide information on reimbursement methods and other financial matters, including health insurance and Medicare/Medicaid payments to ambulance services; develop subject matter white papers to advise on policy as requested; coordinate with other IAFF departments to educate federal, state and local government agencies on EMS-related policies, rules, and regulations; conduct EMS-related classroom training sessions for IAFF affiliates and others; and perform other related work as required to support the mission and goals of the department.

The successful candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including practical experience in technical writing; knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS and other associated programs and software; a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Advanced Word, Intermediate Access, Intermediate Excel and database software. The successful candidate must have strong practical experience in fire and EMS services, including: knowledge of government rules, regulations and procedures affecting fire and EMS services. The successful candidate must also have the ability to maintain EMS licensure or certification, and the ability to achieve Fire Protection Specialist certification.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, emergency management, emergency medical services, business administration, fire science or a related area is preferred, as well as a minimum of five years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience working with labor unions is preferred.

Starting salary in the high $60ks. The IAFF provides a generous benefits package including employer-paid health insurance.
