Gerry Huget

The IAFF is sad to report the passing of Captain Gerry Huget, former president of Regina, SK Local 181 and the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Association (SPFFA) who died Saturday, September 15, 2018, in Regina at the age of 69.

Huget served the people of Regina as a fire fighter for 27 years before retiring in 2004. He was a dedicated union leader who fought passionately for his fellow fire fighters at the local, provincial and international levels for over two decades.

He was the longest-serving president and executive board member in the history of Local 181. He was treasurer from 1986 to 1988, secretary from 1989 to 1993 and president from 1996 to 2013.

He was president of the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Association from 1994 to 2010, during which time he founded the SPFFA provincial lobby and helped secure numerous advances on behalf of the province’s professional fire fighters including presumptive cancer legislation and 2-in/2-out regulations.

He worked passionately to advance the SPFFA Burn Fund and also served on the IAFF Elected Human Relations Committee for many years where he worked to advance human relations in our union.

During his time in office, Huget was a proud and active participant in the IAFF and a fixture at IAFF events such as the Canadian Legislative Conference.

At his request, there will be no formal service.

Please join us in remembering Gerry Huget for his contributions to his brothers and sisters in Saskatchewan and across the IAFF and please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.
