The IAFF is welcoming back one of its Utah affiliates, Orem Local 2742, after a 23-year absence. The newly reorganized Local 2742 adds 59 new IAFF members.
“It is great to have Local 2742 back in the IAFF. Orem’s members are a very motivated group of fire fighters who are ready to put boots on the ground and get to work,” says General President Edward Kelly. “I am looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”
“I am pleased to welcome the new members of Local 2742 into the 9th District family,” says 9th District Vice President Michael Frainier. “I know they will be great assets to this union and I look forward to assisting them with their goals.” The City of Orem is located 45 miles south of Salt Lake City. Local 2742 members respond out of four fire stations strategically located around the city.
The members decided now was the time to reaffiliate with the IAFF and the PFFU because they saw how hard the union and the state association were working on behalf of all professional fire fighters.
“As the IAFF and PFFU fight to keep us safe on the job and for better wages and benefits, we want to be a part of the process and lend our voice,” says Local 2742 President Jason Garcia. “Our members are looking forward to networking with other locals like ours and tapping into the many great resources offered like peer support.”
Joining President Garcia on the Local 2742 Executive Board are Vice President Trevor McGuinty and Secretary-Treasurer Cameron Monahan.
