New Texas Local Hopes to Expand Community Involvement

October 16 • 2020

The IAFF is welcoming one of its newest Texas affiliates, Williamson County Emergency Service District 7 (WCESD7) Local 5296. Williamson County is located just northwest of the City of Austin.

“Our first goal is to take a more active role in the community,” says Local 5296 President Derrick Rogers. “We would like to use our status as an organized local to create a benevolent fund. Funds would go to areas of need in the community and within our membership.”

Williamson County is also experiencing a slow but steady growth in population. As such, Local 5296 also plans to use its status as a newly formed union to educate the fire district board about the resources needed to deliver the best service to the area.

The Local 5296 Executive Board includes President Rogers and Secretary-Treasurer Darrick Gray.
