Memphis Fire Fighters Raise Thousands for Local Cancer Charity

December 1 • 2015
For the fourth consecutive year, Memphis, TN Local 1784 donated the proceeds from its October pink T-shirt sales to the Wings Cancer Foundation, a charity organization that helps provide Memphis cancer patients and their families with treatment supplies, counseling and wellness programs. This year’s donation was for $15,000, the largest yet.

Throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, the members of Local 1784 sold pink T-shirts to members of the community. And during the last week of the month, Memphis fire fighters wore the shirt on duty, giving each member an opportunity to wear the shirt three times.

“What put us over the top this year is that several businesses and offices purchased multiple T-shirts at a time,” says Matthew Tomek, Local 1784 Secretary-Treasurer.

The members of Memphis Local 1784 presented the check at the Foundation with a pink fire engine as a backdrop.
