Long Lake Township Local 5368 is the newest Michigan affiliate to join the IAFF.
“We are very pleased to have the members of Long Lake Township Local 5368 join our IAFF family,” says General President Edward Kelly. “I am looking forward to seeing what we can do together to shape the future of our union.”
“The Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union has been instrumental in organizing new IAFF locals and expanding membership,” says 8th District Vice President Mark Sanders. “I am proud to welcome Long Lake Township Local 5368 to the 8th District and the IAFF and look forward to assisting with their goals and priorities.”
Located in Grand Traverse County, the Long Lake Township Fire department which includes Local 5368 members provides fire and emergency medical services within the township’s 36-square miles and to its 10,000 residents. The department includes 9 full-time fire fighters, several part-time fire fighters and a full-time medical director and fire chief. In 2021, there were 567 calls for service.
“We decided to organize so that our collective voice would get us a seat at the table when decisions pertain to our member’s safety and stability are made,” says Local 5368 President William Featherstone, a 15-year veteran fire fighter. “We hope to use the IAFF’s resources and expertise to push our department forward.”
Joining President William Featherstone on the interim Local 5368 Executive Board are Vice President Steven Hart and Secretary-Treasurer Jeffrey Windsor. Official executive board elections will be held April 13.
