Calgary Fire Fighters Hope to Bust Last Year’s Movember Totals

November 6 • 2015
Calgary, AB Local 255 members are among the five million people participating in this year’s Movember Foundation campaign. Local 255 is hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of $30,000.

Throughout the month of November, participants grow moustaches to raise awareness about men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and behavioral health. Money is used to support programs that focus on men’s health.

Local 255 began the month with a kick-off party, and will end the campaign with a special event that includes recognition for the participants. “Men’s health is an important issue, so it really is great to see our guys get a little competitive over who can do the most,” says Todd Kusler, a member of Local 255 and event organizer. “We do recognize our top fundraisers, but we also acknowledge those who grew the most impressive moustaches.”

To raise the stakes, Local 255 also participates in the Movember Foundation’s Great Canadian Fire Challenge where locals compete against each other to raise the most money.

Two similar challenges include the North American Fire Challenge and the Great American Fire Challenge.
