Batesville Local 5380 Joins the IAFF

August 2 • 2022

Batesville Fire and EMS became the latest local to affiliate with the IAFF after receiving its charter on July 30.

“It is my honor to welcome Local 5380 and its members into the International,” says General President Ed Kelly. “I know you are motivated and ready to work hard. I can’t wait to see what we can do together as one IAFF.”

“Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana President Tony Murray and his team have been doing an excellent job of growing the membership,” says 8th District Vice President Mark Sanders. “I am proud to welcome the members of Local 5380 and look forward to assisting them as they work toward their goals.”

The City of Batesville straddles Franklin and Ripley counties in the southern part of the state. As the need for emergency service grew, the Batesville Fire & EMS Department began transitioning from a volunteer to a career department.

“We are looking forward to networking with other locals in our state and working toward common goals,” says Ryan Marcoux, outgoing Local 5380 president. “But one of our first priorities is to reach out to the citizens in our community to let them know we are no longer all volunteer. The switch to career will not only allow us to provide more efficient service, but it will also allow us to be more involved in the community.”

The newly chartered local just held its first official executive board elections. The new president will be Brian Hardebeck and the new secretary-treasurer will be Spencer Broughton.
