City of Council Bluffs, IA is accepting applications for fire fighter and fire fighter/paramedic positions

The City of Council Bluffs, IA is now hiring for fire fighter and fire fighter/paramedic. Only the first 250 applications total for both fire fighter and fire fighter/paramedic will be accepted. Therefore, the close date will be January 31, 2023, or the date that 250 applications are received, whichever is earlier. Applicants are encouraged to save or print the informational packet found on the City’s Employment Opportunities page for their records.

If applicants qualify and wish to be considered for both fire fighter and fire fighter/paramedic, they must fill out a separate application for each position.

  1. The pay range for the position of fire fighter is $55,850.87 with step increases to $75,918.11.
  2. The pay range for the position of fire fighter/paramedic is $57,805.50 with step increases to $78,575.36.

The written exam is the next step in the application process following the application period. Applicants who are included in the first 250 applications received are invited to take the written exam. This will be held on February 14, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. at the Mid America Center – Ballroom A. There is a passing score of 70%. If you wish to be considered for this position, you must be present for and complete this written exam.

The City of Portland, OR is accepting applications for Lateral fire fighter EMT/paramedic. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2023 at 11:59pm (Pacific). 

Eligible candidates for hire will have a minimum of 2 years of current and continuous experience as a full-time/career fire fighter with no separation time or break in service longer than 30 days at time of conditional offer of employment. (Part-time, volunteer, sleeper/resident, paid-on-call, or seasonal does not apply to lateral firefighter recruitment.)

Lateral fire fighters for Portland Fire & Rescue will be required to successfully complete a condensed fire academy and complete 12 months as a probationary fire fighter. Eligible fire fighter paramedic candidates will be expected to maintain paramedic for 5 years from date of hire.
