Waco, TX is seeking new Fire Chief

Waco, TX is the 25th largest city in Texas is accepting applications for a new Fire Chief.

Reporting to an Assistant City Manager, the Fire Chief plans, directs, and supervises all operations of the Fire Department for efficient and effective service delivery. The Chief administers the department’s operating budget by monitoring expenditures, allocating resources, and recommending purchases.

 The City of Waco seeks a decisive and assertive leader who is available, approachable, and supportive of the department and its personnel.

Candidate should have demonstrated experience in developing strong relationships with the community they serve and the labor force they lead.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Service Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Management, or Business Administration as well as seven (7) years of firefighting field experience, including five (5) years in a senior management or command level with a municipal fire department. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidate must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Certifications for Intermediate Firefighter from Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and Emergency Care Attendant from Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) are required upon hire. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is also required upon hire.

• Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of fire and emergency medical services operations and management; public administration of local governments; knowledge of best practices in the management of municipal fire and emergency medical services; and the principles and practices of emergency preparedness and disaster response.
• Experience with collective bargaining will be favorably considered. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, will also be considered.

Independence, MO seeks Fire Chief

Independence Fire Department, the third busiest fire department, in the state of Missouri, is accepting applications for Fire Chief.

The Fire Chief reports directly to the City Manager. The Fire Chief reports directly to the City Manager has Class 2 ISO rating, and operates with 6 divisions, 10 fire stations, 192 personnel and an operating budget of $34.7 million.

Qualified candidates will have a BA/BS degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration or related field as well as 10 years of progressively responsible fire operations experience, including a minimum of 5 years at the command level.  Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 training would be required within 6 months of employment. A bachelor’s degree combined with relevant experience that demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform the duties of this position may be considered.

Preferred qualifications include certification from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program or equivalent, experience in a unionized labor environment, City residency, and a Master’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Business, Public Administration, or related field.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 with starting salary dependent upon experience and qualifications. Comprehensive Benefit Package includes Missouri Local Government Employees Retirement System (LAGERS), paid exempt and personal business leave in addition to paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.  This position is also eligible for relocation assistance, automobile and phone allowance.
