Who is eligible to join the IAFF?

Full-time paid firefighters and emergency medical or rescue personnel may be eligible to join the IAFF through a local union.

Any full-time, paid employees engaged in firefighting and/or emergency medical or rescue service activities are eligible for membership in the International Association of Fire Fighters.

How membership works

To become an active member of the IAFF, an individual must join or organize a chartered IAFF Local union.

If an IAFF Local already represents your department or agency, you may be eligible to join that Local.

If your workplace is not currently represented by the IAFF, you may be eligible to organize and affiliate with the IAFF.

Not sure about your eligibility?

If you have questions about whether you qualify for membership, contact us. We will direct your request to a representative in your district who will provide the information you need.
