Applications are now open for the IAFF’s 2025 Communications Training Academy (CTA) and the A. Michael Mullane Political Training Academy (PTA) (log-in required).
These weeklong, hands-on programs equip IAFF members with valuable skills to enhance their Local’s communications and political efforts.
The Communications Training Academy provides members with the latest tools and techniques for social media, public relations, and political action, empowering attendees to effectively tell their Local’s story to both members and the public.
I’ve been to numerous IAFF trainings (ALTS, PEP, state events, conventions), but this class was probably the most intense and the one I learned the most in.
2024 CTA Attendee
The Political Training Academy teaches IAFF members how to strengthen their Local’s political operations. With campaigns and elections hinging on smart decision-making, PTA focuses on guiding members to make winning choices. Please note, PTA is open to only U.S. members.
Both CTA and PTA will be held from May 5-9, 2025, at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum Heights, Maryland. Only active IAFF members are eligible to apply. The IAFF covers lodging and meals, and participants are responsible for travel costs.
Your instruction at PTA helped me tailor my message and priorities and proceed with confidence as I worked through the legislative process in my home state.
2024 PTA Attendee
Due to the interactive and intensive nature of these programs, only 50 applicants will be accepted for each. The IAFF requests that Locals recommend just one candidate per program each year. Applications must include a letter of recommendation from your Local president. If you are a Local president wishing to attend, please submit a letter of recommendation from your District Vice President (DVP).
Applications are due by Jan. 31, with decisions announced by the end of February.
