The two locals kicked off the campaign June 10 at a press conference at Las Vegas Fire Station 6.
Henderson Local 1883 President Dan Pentkowski said, “This message is incredibly important. Last year, 49 children in the United States died after being left in the heat in vehicles.”
Las Vegas Local 1285 President Scott Johnson, added, “We want to do everything we can to get the word out to prevent these tragedies from happening to any family in our communities.”
As part of the campaign, residents are encouraged to attach awareness ribbons to keys or car gear shifts to remind them to check the backseats before leaving their vehicle. In addition, Las Vegas Local 1285 is working with the American Red Cross to help prevent drowning, one of the leading causes of accidental death in southern Nevada for young children. Local 1285 members have taken to the streets as part of the “Safe Pools Rule!” campaign, knocking on doors to provide education and heightened awareness on pool safety.
