IAFF members seeking advanced training in political action or strategic communications can now apply for the 2026 Political Training Academy and Advanced Communications Training Academy.
The Advanced Communications Training Academy, taking place May 6–8, 2026, in Washington, D.C., is a three-day, hands-on program for IAFF members who have previously completed CTA or the Introductory Communications Track. Participants will sharpen skills in crisis communications, media strategy, and campaign messaging across traditional and digital platforms. The 2026 curriculum has been updated to address current media and technology realities and offers practical tools participants can put to immediate use. Enrollment is limited to 32 students.
The A. Michael Mullane Political Training Academy will be held May 4–8, 2026, at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum Heights, Maryland. The week-long training is designed for IAFF members who are currently running for elected office, managing campaigns, or leading a Local’s political action program. Both campaign veterans and political newcomers are eligible. Enrollment is limited to 50 students.
