Approach

In 2005, in an effort to curtail rising health insurance costs for both the employer and employee, the City of Lewiston and Lewiston Local 785 adopted the Fire Service Joint Labor Management Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI). All members who participate in the WFI are given full credit available towards health insurance cost containment programs.

Both parties continue to promote the Fire Service Joint Labor Management Wellness-Fitness Initiative and demonstrate their support. To best serve its residents, health and fitness are some of the principal concerns for all members of the fire department. In recognition, the City has provided the resources necessary to continue this program as it currently is defined for the benefit of the residents and fire fighters alike.
