Brothers and Sisters,

On April 6, I sent an email to affiliate leaders concerning unsubstantiated allegations that have been leveled against our union, our Board and me personally.

Those irresponsible actions, intended to do great harm to our union solely for someone’s own personal political gain, have resulted in the government issuing subpoenas for records to the IAFF, Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus Thomas Miller and me. We are cooperating fully with those requests and your union continues to do its due diligence and review the matter.

From the outset, I acknowledged that multiple Executive Board internal committee structures should be allowed to complete their work and develop their findings. I have vowed to let those processes take their course. I also made it clear that as the results became available, you would be notified.

While there is still much more to come, the Emergency Disputes Fund and Legal Services Committee of the Executive Board has issued the first of its reports (login is required).

I will let the Committee’s report speak for itself and stand on its own. Login is required to view the report.

I continue to have great faith in our union and the structure established in our Constitution & By-Laws, and I commit to you once again that I will not violate our time-tested policies or processes as others have chosen to do.

Fraternally,

Harold A. Schaitberger
General President
