As some fire departments try to restrict the use of social media at fire stations, a new survey released  shows younger employees expect more access to information.

Researchers find younger workers are seeking more access to information via social media at work and that 67 percent of people surveyed feel that the IT policies on social media and device usage are outdated and should be modified to address real-life demands for more work flexibility.

The people surveyed were young professionals under the age of 30 and college students 18 and 23.

Two of five of the young people surveyed said they would accept a lower paying job that had more flexibility with regard to device choice/ social media access and mobility than a higher-paying job with less flexibility.

How can fire departments ensure they are growing and changing with the times and incorporate social media into the job?
