Our General Secretary-Treasurer

Vincent J. Bollon
Vincent Bollon was reelected in August 2008 to a sixth four-year term as General Secretary-Treasurer of the International Association of Fire Fighters, representing more than 296,000 professional fire fighters across the United States and Canada. He has been an IAFF member for more than 42 years.

Mr. Bollon was president of Local 854, Uniformed Fire Officers Association, New York, from 1980 to 1988, and an executive board member of the association in 1978. He was elected vice president of the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association, and served in this capacity from 1984 to 1987.

He was financial recording secretary of Local 94, Uniformed Firefighters, New York, from 1975 to 1977, and first vice-chairman of the largest fire fighter pension fund in the United States and Canada from 1980 to 1988. He was also chairman of his local union's annuity trust fund. Currently he is chairman of the IAFF Pension Trust Fund, chairman of NFPA Pension Fund, and a trustee on the Fairfax County, Virginia, Uniformed Retirement System.

Mr. Bollon presently serves on the following committees and boards:

  • Board of Directors, National Fire Protection Association
  • New York State Fire Safety Advisory Board in 1986
  • Board member, New York City Fire Museum
  • Advisory board member, John Jay College
  • Member of various committees addressing incident command and
    contagious diseases
  • New York State Fire Safety Advisory Board since 1986

Mr. Bollon's legislative achievements include the following:

  • Lobbied for the New York State Toxic Tort Law.
  • Was instrumental in passing fire fighter occupational health and safety legislation, including the New York State Right to Know Law, the New York State Public Employee Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the New York State Fire Gas Toxicity Legislation.
  • Drafted and helped secure the passage of the New York State First Line Supervisors Law, which provides up to four weeks training, at state expense, for newly promoted first line supervisors in all New York State paid fire departments.

Mr. Bollon was awarded the medal for bravery in the New York City Fire Department on nine separate occasions, and was bestowed meritorious awards.
