Job Creation and Recovery

Working families and state and local governments continue struggling to cope with the weak economy.  Local public safety budgets have been especially hard hit, with 12,000 fire fighter positions lost or at risk of being lost. 

Providing additional funding for the AFG and SAFER grant programs, as well as providing additional funding for state and local personnel needs, will help grow and stabilize public safety jobs.  Congress is currently working to pass a comprehensive jobs bill, and the IAFF is working to ensure that public safety needs are addressed by such legislation.
