IAFF-MG 12th District National Ride Route

The IAFF-MG 12th District will meet in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 6, 2007, and depart from there on September 7. We have 15 brothers and sisters who have expressed an interest in the ride. Please provide confirmation of those members making the rally.

September 6: Meet in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Best Western Hotel, 4627 South US 280, Birmingham, AL 35242; (205-991-9977). Room rates are $79.99 double and $69.99 single. Some have indicated they would be using a truck or trailer to Birmingham. We will be able to store a few cars and/or trucks at the Birmingham Firefighters Union Hall during the ride. The Hall is not far from the Hotel.

The 12th District IAFF-MG will be divided into smaller groups of about six bikes. Riders will meet in the Best Western Hotel parking lot at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 7 to review the route and any special instructions. Regardless of how big the ride becomes, there will not be any group of more than eight bikes.
The trouble truck and trailer will haul gear, drinks and cover break downs to Sturgis in order to be able to fix any bike problems or get to the next Harley Davidson dealership.

September 7: Depart for Little Rock, Arkansas, at 9:00 a.m. (380 miles), Motel 6, 400 West 29th Street Little Rock, AR; 72114 (501-758-5100). Room rates are r $39.99 + tax. Back Road Route: SW on I-20 to Tuscaloosa, West on US 82 to Greenville, MS, NW on US 82 to Lake Village then US 65 to Pine Bluff, AR, US 65 to Little Rock, AR. Highway Route: US 78 to Memphis, US 70 / I-40 to Little Rock.

September 8: Depart for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 9:00 a.m. (340 Miles), Motel 6 (Airport), 820 South Meridian Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73108; (405-946-6662). Room rates are $49.99 + tax and $3 extra per person(s). Back Road Route: North on I-40 to Conway, then west on US 64 to Ft. Smith, US 64 to Oklahoma City. Highway Route: North on I-40 to Conway, then west on I-40 to Ft. Smith, I-40 to Oklahoma City.

September 9: Depart for McCook, Nebraska, at 9:00 a.m. (487 miles), Best Western 612 west “B” Street, McCook, NE 69001; (308-345-3700). Room rates are $69.00 + tax. Back Road Route: West on I-40, northwest on US 270 through Woodward to Balko, then US 83 north through Scott City through Oakly through Halford then north on US 383 to Seldan then north on US 83 to McCook.

September 10: Depart for Sturgis, South Dakota at 9:00 a.m. (436 Miles). Back Road Route: North on US 83 to I-90 at Murdo, South Dakota, west on I-90 through Rapid City to Sturgis.

September 10-13: Star Lite Motel Sturgis, South Dakota; $45.00 single and $50.00 double, plus tax; (888-214-3352). 

September 11: Observe 9/11 Day of Remembrance (location TBA)

September 12: Day rides and evening get-together (location TBA)

September 13:  Day rides

All of these rides will be on your own. In Sturgis, we will join our other IAFF brothers and sisters who are riding to the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial in Colorado Springs.

September 14: Depart for Colorado Springs, Colorado. From Sturgis, South Dakota, follow US-14A to US-85 South to US-18/85 South to US-18/20 to I-25 South through Denver to Colorado Springs.

September 14 and 15:

September 15: Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Observance, Colorado Springs, Colorado
We may join the Wind & Fire-sponsored "Ride to Remember." This ride starts at the parking lot of a dog track north of the city. This may be the largest group of bikes ever. The people of Colorado Springs line the streets in honor of the fallen. Class A uniform, including hat, is requested but not required. (Colorado has no helmet law). If you bring your class “A” we can provide room on the trouble truck to keep them clean and pressed.

September 16: Depart Colorado Springs
