IAFF-MG 4th District Holds 3rd Annual Go for Gallardy Poker Run

June 20, 2008 - The IAFF-MG 4th District invites fellow IAFF-MG members to ride with Altoona, PA Local 299 and Johnstown, PA Local 463 in remembrance of fallen brother Bob Gallardy. This 95-mile ride begins in Johnstown and travels across the mountains to Altoona and back during the 11th Annual Thunder in the Valley Motorcycle Rally on Friday June 27, 2008.

This official, IAFF-MG 4th District ride is held each year in memory of Captain Robert Gallardy, a member of Altoona Local 299 who died in the line of duty on October 25, 2005. The Captain Bob Gallardy Fire Service Education and Safety Fund was established to pay for fire fighter training.

Johnstown’s Thunder in the Valley Motorcycle Rally is June 26-29, 2008. Thunder in the Valley welcomes all bikes and bikers, attracting more than 180,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to the region. Registration for the ride is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday June 27, 2008, on Walnut Street across from the Train Station, 60 Walnut Street, Downtown Johnstown. The ride will be a staggered start with 25 bikes per group. The first group will leave at 9:15 a.m. and the last group will depart at noon. Pre-register a specific start time for your group by calling Clark Bornais at (814) 248-9345.

This scenic 95-mile ride, which crosses the Allegheny Front twice, visits Altoona Fire Headquarters and travels through both the Pennsylvania Railroad Horseshoe Curve and The Johnstown Flood National Memorial, costs $20 per single rider or $35 per couple. At the conclusion of the ride, join your union brothers and sisters for food, beverage and poker hand prize awards across from the Train Station at the Thunder Pub staffed by the Johnstown fire fighters.
