July 30, 2008 -- The Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters kicked off its inaugural Fill-the-Boot campaign at the Providence state house. Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters President Frank Montanaro announced a goal for the 33 IAFF locals in Rhode Island to raise $260,000 this summer for MDA, urging fire fighters to hit the streets and citizens to stop and fill the boot for MDA. Montanaro, who made the first $1 donation to the 2008 Fill-the-Boot campaign, noted that if each Rhode Island resident spared just $1, the campaign would raise more than $300,000.
