Bethlehem Pulls It Off

Members of Bethlehem, PA Local 735 raised $4,000 in three months for MDA through various events. One being the Lehigh Valley International Airport airplane pull in which they won first place with a time of 7.32 seconds. Other events that took place were an MDA Lock-up and a Fill-The-Boot event featuring the Buffalo Bills wide receiver Andre Reed.


Pittsburgh Receives Recognition from Mayor for MDA Efforts

On November 8, 2007, members of Local 1 - Pittsburgh, PA were honored at a press conference held by Pittsburgh Mayor, Luke Ravenstahl. For the 2007 Fill the Boot campaign, local 1 received incentive prizes for their efforts in raising a total of $94,000 for MDA! First prize, for the station that collected the most money was an entire room of furniture donated by Roomful Express. Station 30 won the prize by colleting $20,000. The winning station donated the furniture to an MDA family living in the city of Pittsburgh. Excellent job Pittsburgh!


Murrieta Raises $20k

Friday, November 2, 2007 Murrieta, CA Local 3540 set out to raise money for Jerry’s Kids. They hit the streets hard from 8am-3pm making sure not to miss a single car that passed, asking each one for a generous donation. Through the diligent efforts of these fire fighters and the kindness of the community of Murrieta we were able to raise $20,000!  They increased last year's total by over $13,000. Great job Murrieta!


Oak Creek, WI First FTB Raises Over $6k

Oak Creek, WI Local 1848 hosted their first ever street corner FTB for MDA on Labor Day. With the help of the community and their tireless efforts they raised $6,566. Excellent job!


Thanks for Your Efforts Crowley, LA

Crowley, LA Local 1442 fire fighters conducted two very successful events.  First being a barbeque hamburger sale on August 17-19, 2007. Second, the local held their Fill-the-Boot Labor Day weekend. All in all, Crowley fire fighters were able to present a check on the local Telethon for an amazing $6,178. Way to go!


Kenosha Fire Fighters FTB

Kenosha, WI Local 414 member Jeremy Ryan holds a boot to raise funds for MDA. Local 414 held their annual Labor Day Fill-the-Boot drive and surpassed last year’s goal by over $6,000. The Fire Fighters took their boots to several different street corners within the city and raised a total of $26,077.67 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Support from the Fire Fighters enables the Muscular Dystrophy Association to continue to provide help today through its comprehensive patient services program and hope for tomorrow through its worldwide research.


Great Job Homewood!

Homewood, IL Local 3656 helped “put out” neuromuscular disease by participating in the nationwide “Fill the Boot” campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. These dedicated fire fighters and their boots raised $4,150 while at the intersections of Harwood & Ridge Road and Ridge Road & Dixie Highway. The money raised will go to help local children and adults in South Cook County who are affected by any of 43 neuromuscular diseases.


Green Bay Closes in at Almost $11,000 Through FTB

Green Bay, WI Professional Fire Fighters Local 141 held their annual Fill-the-Boot drive to benefit MDA on Friday, August 24, 2007 collecting almost $11,000 for MDA. They also had their annual Cooper Schroeder Trail run, which raised over $3,000. Through their generous contributions and the tireless efforts of the Green Bay Professional Fire Fighters Local 141 their Fill-the-Boot event is their most successful yet.


Midland, TX Exceeds $100k!

Midland, TX Local 4405 hosted a phenomenal Fill-the-Boot event August 9-11, 2007, raising a total of $100,354! This crushed their previous year record of $77,556 and put them at over $1.00 per capita. Excellent job!


Fill-the-Boot at Lunch

Charleston, WV Local 317 spent three Fridays during lunch to raise funds for Fill-the-Boot. They brought in an impressive $17,100!


Three Day Record Breaker

Mountain View, WA fire fighters, members of  King County Fire District 44 Local 3186, held a three day Fill-the-Boot event bringing in a total of $10,927.65. This breaks their previous year's record. Good job!


Presidential Shaving!

 

Secretary-Treasurer Keith Kyte and Vice President Justin Pearce of Orange Beach, AL Local 4309 enjoyed shaving their President, Sam Jackson's head after he stated he would gladly give up his hair if their Fill the Boot efforts increased this year. Local 4309 raised a total of $26,510 breaking last year's record of $22,000.

Waterloo Fire Fighters Labor Day FTB

 

Waterloo, IA Local 66 spent Labor Day weekend filling the boot bringing in a total of just under $25,000. Great job!


West Palm Beach, FL Increase Efforts This Year

 

West Palm Beach, FL Local 727 members hit the streets raising a total of $19,332 for 2007 Fill-the-Boot.


Cuyahoga Falls Receives Recognition

 

Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Local 494 were recognized with a plaque for their FTB efforts raising $2,884. Last year was first in their efforts to raise funds for MDA and they will continue that momentum by setting up a competition to see which shift can raise the most money during their upcoming boot drive. Good luck Local 494!


LA City Raises Over $100,000!

 

Los Angeles City, CA Local 112 raised $105,677 for MDA during a 3-day Fill-the-Boot on July 19-21, 2007. At various intersections throughout the city, on-duty fire fighters collected over $33,000 more than their previous year totals. Pictured above is Battalion 6 who raised the most in Local 112. Congratulations LA City!


Fairfax County Gets Dunked!

 

Fairfax County, VA Local 2068 paid their annual visit to the MDA camp in St. Leonard, Maryland on June 29, 2007. Fill the Boot Co-Coordinator and Local 2068 Communications Director Joel Kobersteen, Vice President John Niemiec, Secretary-Treasurer Danny Gray, and Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department Fire Chief Ron Mastin staffed the grill and the buffet line to feed the hungry campers and staff at the last day of camp. While the hungry staff and campers waited for the food to be ready, the crew of Fairfax County Fire Station 5, C-Shift entertained them by putting rookie brother Nate Larkin in the dunk tank and showing off a Fairfax County engine company.


 

Snohomish 2007 Total More than Doubles

 

Snohomish, WA District 8 Local 3235 surpassed their 2006 total Fill the Boot raising $14,144 this year.  Keep up the good work!


Corvallis and Springfield, OR Exceed Previous Year Totals!

 

Left: Corvallis, OR Local 2240 exceeded their $10,000 Fill the Boot goal.  On August 10th and 11th they collected $10,600 with an increase of $3,160 over last year’s event! Eleven off duty fire fighters spent their time collecting each day. The fire fighters' families pitched in to help both days to assist with accounting and delivery of water to those filling the boot.

Right: Springfield, OR Local 1395 broke their Fill the Boot record once again when they collected $28,541 on August 10th and 11th! Off duty fire fighters hit the pavement for eight hours each day collecting at one central location on Friday and two locations on Saturday. Several fire fighter families showed their support by volunteering to help with money collection, accounting and delivery of cold water to keep everyone hydrated both days. Union President, Kevin Gray, showed his gratitude by taking all who had volunteered to dinner at Outback Steakhouse at the end of each collection day.


Santa Fe Springs Stop Traffic for MDA

 

Santa Fe Springs, CA Local 3507 raised nearly $30,000 from two intersections on June 22, 2007. They will present funds raised at this year's Jerry Lewis Telethon.


West Covina, CA Hold 2nd Annual FTB

 

West Covina, CA Local 3226 hold their 2nd annual Fill the Boot. They raised a total of $7,560 on their city streets.


Downey, CA Raises Over $17k

Downey, CA Local 3473 members soak up the sun as they raised $17,646 in a one day Fill the Boot.


Great Job Chester, PA Local 1400!

Lebanon, OR FTB Raises Over $11,000

Lebanon, OR Local 2163 exceeded its Fill the Boot goal during its two day collection on August 3 and 4. After a long hiatus from the Fill the Boot program, the off duty participating fire fighters raised an amazing $11,025! Participants devoted their time, energy and enthusiasm to “fill the boot” for kids like local Lebanon MDA Goodwill Ambassador Masin Carter who joined his fire fighter buddies each day.

 


Roseburg, OR Raises Over $12k in One Day

Roseburg, OR Local 1110 exceeded its goal to raise $12,500 during its one day Fill the Boot collection on June 29. The off duty participating fire fighters increased the amount they raised last year from $10,712 to $12,811. Despite the rain that fell periodically throughout the day the fire fighters persevered and even went above and beyond by collecting for an hour longer than scheduled. Nine of the 14 participants devoted their entire day to “fill the boot” for kids like local MDA Goodwill Ambassador Daniel Roehrig who spent the afternoon thanking them and handing out snacks and beverages.

 


Eugene, OR Hit the Streets to FTB

Eugene, OR Local 851’s South Lane Fire & Rescue (left) hit the streets of Cottage Grove on July 14 for its annual Fill the Boot collection. The one day five hour collection generated $3,833 to benefit MDA.

(Right) On June 21 and 22 Local 851’s Eugene Fire Department’s participating off duty fire fighters exceeded its previous year’s total with a final collection of $17,352. Money raised will provide funding for research, clinic evaluations, medical equipment, summer camp for the area families registered with MDA.
 


 

Clermont, FL Raises $30k for MDA

Clermont, FL Local 4350 dedicated their efforts in 2007 to MDA and raised $30,000, which surpassed their 2006 record of $20,000.


Mokena, IL Defeats Police Department 13-11


Mokena, IL Local 4270 hosted a softball game against the Mokena Police Department to raise $3,800 for MDA.


Hopes and Dreams in Danbury Raises $55,000 for MDA


Danbury, CT Local 801 President Christopher T. Ryan was the Master of Ceremonies for the second annual “Evening of Hope and Dreams” event held on May 23, 2007, in Stamford, Connecticut. This cocktail reception featured a silent, live and research minute auction. Local 801 Secretary Robert C. Forbes served as a co-auctioneer and helped raise more than $12,000. With the help of fire fighters, the event raised more than $55,000 to benefit Jerry’s Kids.


St. Louis Park Members Wins Bass Tournament


St. Louis Park, MN Local 993 held its fourth annual bass fishing contest for MDA, raising $600. The contest for largest limit was won by Local 993 member Paul Steinhilber.


Chili Cook-off Raises $22,000


Carlsbad, CA Local 3730 and San Marcos, CA Local 4184 participated in the Chili Cook-off at the San Diego County, California, MDA-Padres Tailgate Party May 12 at Embarcadero Marina Park on the San Diego Harbor. The event raised $22,000 for MDA. The winner of the cook-off was Local 4184.


Lake Charles Fire Fighters Gross $14,000


Lake Charles, LA Local 561 members collected in two shifts at five intersections on May 19, raising more than $14, 900 for MDA. Local 561 will conduct another boot drive later this summer and organize its First “Stair Climb for Kids” June 23. Local 561 members are well on their way to cross last year’s total of $16,426.


Denton and Cleburne Fire Fighters On a Roll


Denton, TX Local 1291’s Fill-the-Boot campaign raised a total of $51,175 for MDA. Cleburne, TX Local 1854 fire fighters raised $4,219 in their first boot drive in eight years.


Tallahassee Raises the Most


Tallahassee, FL Local 2339 did a phenomenal job and raised more than $34,129, surpassing their goal of $21,000 for this year. Local 2339 President Travis Oaks and Local 2339 Vice President Jarvis Bedford, along with Local 2339 members Mark Evans and Kenny Schultz, were the main force behind this year’s boot drive.


El Paso, TX Local 51 Summer Camp Visit


El Paso, TX Local 51 participated in MDA Summer Camp 2007. The MDA kids enjoyed horseback riding, fire fighter games, karaoke, face painting, fishing, swimming and a Renaissance event.


Novato, CA Members Fill the Boot


Novato, CA Local 1775 fire fighter and first time Fill-the-Boot Coordinator Captain Phil Tripp and a few dedicated members of Local 1775 filled their boots on May 31, 2007, raising $1,674 for MDA.


Lubbock, TX Members Raise $55,000


Lubbock, TX Local 972 fire fighters raised more than $55,000 in a three-day Fill-the-Boot campaign. MDA thanks Local 972 member and MDA Coordinator Blake “Lumpy” Ball for organizing a successful and smooth campaign.


Fort Walton Beach Members Hold First Boot Drive


Fort Walton Beach, FL Local 2601 fire fighters conducted their first Fill-the-Boot outing of the year in May, raising more than $4,000 in just four hours. Under the leadership of Local 2601 President and MDA Coordinator Jim Poirrier and with the support of Fire Chief Mike Duttonhalf et a goal to collect more than $7,000 this year. Fire fighters also attend the MDA Summer Camp in Port St. Joe, Florida each year and cook lunch for the 30 children who attend this camp and are affected by muscular dystrophy.

Tampa, FL Local 754 fire fighters collected more than $64,000 for MDA


Tuscaloosa Golf Tournament Raises $30,000


Tuscaloosa, AL Local 403 held its 12th Annual Golf Tournament for MDA in May. A total of 172 players, including the mayor of Tuscaloosa, participated in several rounds of golf. Local 403 fire fighters grilled lunch and gave away several prizes.


Way to Go Southwest Florida Fire Fighters!


Southwest Florida Professional Fire Fighters Local 1826 members from seven fire districts hit the streets March 22-24, 2007, for their annual Fill-the-Boot Drive, collectively raising more than $61,000 for MDA. Estero Fire Rescue raised $21,200; Iona-McGregor Fire Protection and Rescue raised $19,713; Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District raised $7,910; the City of Fort Myers Fire Rescue and the Lee County Port Authority raised $5,384; Lehigh Acres Fire Department raised $4,495; and Lee County EMS raised $2,426.


Central County Fire Fighters Hustle to Tackle


Central County, CA Local 2400 fire fighters came together May 9, 2007, to support MDA and Jerry’s Kids. Under the leadership of Local 2400 fire fighter and Fill-the-Boot Coordinator Casey Pera, fire fighters from station 34 raised $5,394 in just four hours.


Ocala Fire Fighters Hold Annual Fair for MDA


Ocala, FL Local 2135 fire fighters organized an annual fair May 17-20, 2007, to raise money for MDA. Fire fighters displayed their fire apparatus and gave their helmets to children.


Quincy Local Has Successful Boot Drive

Quincy, FL Local 4343 conducted its first Fill-the-Boot outing April 7, 2007, raising more than $1,100 in just five hours. Local 4343 President and MDA Coordinator Stoney Hall and his team of fire fighters are determined to raise $5,000 this year. Local members will collect again during Labor Day weekend


Daly City Fire Fighters Go Above and Beyond the Call

Fire fighters from Dale City, CA Local 1879 came together in full force to support MDA and Jerry’s Kids. With boots in hand, fire fighters asked residents to “give a hoot and fill the boot.” Local 1879 collected $5,600 in less than four hours. Local 1879 member and Fill-the-Boot Coordinator Nick Doyle says the local surpassed the projected goal by more than $500.


Duxbury Members Knock Down Pins

Duxbury, MA Local 2167 participated in the Third Annual Bowl-A-Thon for MDA May 6 at Alley Kat Lanes in Kingston, Massachusetts. Collectively, participants knocked down 2,125 pins – raising more than $400 for MDA. Local 2167 fire fighter Buzz Wadsworth had the high score.


Baton Rouge IAFF Members Ready to Support MDA

Baton Rouge, LA Local 557 fire fighters joined members of St. George, LA Local 4524 and Baker, LA Local 3797 to kick off a Fill-the-Boot campaign in April. Baton Rouge fire fighters and Fire Chief Ed Smith proclaimed four-year-old MDA client George Wood as “Honorary Fire Chief.” Wood also toured fire department headquarters.

Millstone Township, NJ Local 4388 fire fighters share lunch with local MDA Goodwill Ambassador Anna Landre.


Des Moines Fire Fighters Win for MDA

A Des Moines, IA Local 4 fire fighter team took on a local law enforcement team in a Guns ‘n Hoses Hockey game to benefit MDA. The fire fighters beat the police 6-3 on the ice, but the real winner was MDA – the event raised $2,200 in ticket sales, a raffle of donated prizes and a Boot Block before the Guns ‘n Hoses game – as well as the American Hockey League Iowa Stars game. Prior to both games, Des Moines Area MDA Goodwill Ambassador Levi Harrington conducted an honorary Puck Drop.


Petaluma, CA Members Raise $5,015

Members of Petaluma, CA Local 1415 filled their boots, raising $5,015 for MDA. Local 1415 member Jude Prokop led the efforts, generating tremendous enthusiasm and success for the event.


North Monterey Members Collect $12,000 in First Round

North County Monterey, CA Local 3058 participated in a successful Fill-the-Boot, raising almost $12,000.


El Paso Members Brave Dust Storm for MDA

Fifty members of El Paso, TX Local 51 braved a dust storm to help Jerry's Kids, collecting $15,000.


Petaluma, CA Members Raise $5,015

Members of Petaluma, CA Local 1415 filled their boots, raising $5,015 for MDA. Local 1415 member Jude Prokop led the efforts, generating tremendous enthusiasm and success for the event.
