FIRE OPS 101

Invite your local elected officials, media representative and other decision makers to Fire Ops 101 to participate in basic fire ground operations and experience the skills required and the risks inherent to professional fire fighting and emergency medical response.

program, to be held Saturday, October 20 in conjunction with the IAFF 19th Redmond Symposium, will take place at the Chicago Fire Department Training Academy.  The program is designed to give local decision  makers a greater understanding and appreciation of what it is to be a fire fighter and the importance of providing first responders with the training, equipment and other resources needed to do the job. 

The following is the preliminary schedule of events:

  • Live burn/ flashover
  • Medical emergency
  • Ladder operations and forcible entry
  • Confined space search and rescue maze

Registration for this event is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-reserved basis.

Saturday, October 20

7:30 am – 2:00 pm: FireOps 101 (Check-in is at the Hilton Chicago Hotel Lobby 7:00 am - 7:30 am.  Bus transportation will be provided to the Chicago Fire Department Training Academy.)

Spending a hands-on day as a first responder is one of the most effective ways for decision makers and local media to learn about the job.  Nothing else provides a taste of the fire fighting profession like Fire Ops 101.  Participants will see and feel the heat, the sweat, adrenaline rush and physical stress and strain fire fighters face daily on the job, all while illustrating complex issues in the fire service, including staffing, adequate equipment and presumptive health. 

Once registered for the Redmond Symposium, there is no additional registration fee for Fire Ops 101.
