Invite your local elected
officials, media representative and other decision makers to
Fire Ops 101 to
participate in basic fire ground operations and experience
the skills required and the risks inherent to professional
fire fighting and emergency medical response.
The following is the preliminary schedule of events:
Registration for this event is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-reserved basis. Saturday, October 20 7:30 am – 2:00 pm: FireOps 101 (Check-in is at the Hilton Chicago Hotel Lobby 7:00 am - 7:30 am. Bus transportation will be provided to the Chicago Fire Department Training Academy.) Local officers interested in registering decision makers or guests should contact the IAFF at (202) 824-1594 or email redmond@iaff.org and mention Fire Ops 101 to reserve space. Spending a hands-on day as a first responder is one of the most effective ways for decision makers and local media to learn about the job. Nothing else provides a taste of the fire fighting profession like Fire Ops 101. Participants will see and feel the heat, the sweat, adrenaline rush and physical stress and strain fire fighters face daily on the job, all while illustrating complex issues in the fire service, including staffing, adequate equipment and presumptive health. Once registered for the Redmond Symposium, there is no additional registration fee for Fire Ops 101.
