August 29, 2006 - The Washington State Council
of Fire Fighters, nine IAFF affiliates and two IAFF districts
received awards Monday for efforts to raise money for FIREPAC.
Union members raised $3 million for FIREPAC during the election
cycle that ended in 2004, and IAFF General President Harold
Schaitberger has set a goal for the current cycle of $3.5
million.
“We’re on track to meet that goal,” Schaitberger
said Tuesday.
A growing number of affiliates raise money for FIREPAC through the International’s dues check-off program. In
2000, just 30 locals participated in the check-off program.
Today, 166 locals are enrolled in the check-off program and make
donations to FIREPAC through a payroll deduction. All nine of
the top locals have a check-off program. 2005 FIREPAC Century
Club Award winners are:
●District 8 – most money raised
●District 7 –
highest percentage of 2005 goal
●State Association – Washington State Council of
Fire Fighters – most money raised and highest percentage of 2005
