Local 3888 Welcomes IAFF to Toronto
August 28, 2006 - “We are honored to host the
IAFF 48th Biennial Convention,” said Scott Marks, president of
Toronto, ON Local 3888, during the Monday Business Session. “I
am also proud of all the work our members have done to bring
thousands of our brothers and sisters to our great city.”
Representing more than 3,000 fire fighters,
Local 3888 is the largest Canadian affiliate. Sunday night,
Toronto Local 3888 welcomed delegates from across North America
with a catered reception at BCE Place and the Hockey Hall of
Fame, two of downtown Toronto’s grandest locations. Thousands of
fire fighters and guests gathered underneath the towering
glass-covered atrium of BCE place and streamed into the Hockey
Hall of Fame and enjoyed refreshments and buffet-style eats.
The affair served as a perfect kick off to the
week’s business.
Local 3888 member Mark McKinnon, chair of the
Host Local Committee, said, “We were ecstatic to be able to
showcase the Hockey Hall of Fame. A good time was had by all.”
The Hockey hall of Fame is a shrine to Canada’s
favorite sport, and Convention delegates and their guests were
invited to tour the premises and enjoy some of the sport’s most
treasured memorabilia. In addition, former Toronto Maple Leaf
star Doug Gilmour dropped by to sign autographs and pose for
pictures. Local 3888 has also organized a harbour dinner cruise
and bus tours to Niagara Falls.
