How do I know if I'm treating the swine flu?

Fire fighters on the scene During a threat of the swine flu, treat any case of the influenza as if it were the pandemic flu.

Characteristic signs and symptoms:
  • Persistent fever, usually high fever
  • Lethargy
  • Lack of appetite
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills

Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
