Preparing for Collective Bargaining

Developing Goals

To prepare for negotiations you must first develop reasonable and attainable bargaining goals for your local. These will be non-economic goals and economic goals. To determine these goals you must find data to support these demands.

An economic goal is any contract item that affects the finances of the city or any item that costs money.

Examples: uniform allowance, wage increase, and staffing.

A non-economic goal is a contract item that does not affect cost.

Examples: grievance procedures or policies on email and bulletin board.
