Earn A College Degree (NLC)
A Bachelor
of Arts degree in Labor Studies is available through the
George Meany Center-National Labor College (GMC-NLC).
The IAFF has completed work with the
National Labor College, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, to offer
college credit for fire service and EMS training, as well local labor
organization activities. These programs recognize the unique training
and experiences of fire fighters, EMTs and paramedics and provide
college equivalent credit for them.

*These programs are offered through a partnership with the University of
Baltimore. The programs are not open to students unless they have been
admitted through GMC-NLC.
Students must attend at
least five classes at the National Labor College. This can be
accomplished over two, one-week sessions. Click here to see the
approximate cost. The National Labor College
also offers no interest loans to help defray the cost of books and
tuition and grants to qualifying students.
The National Labor College is dedicated
to serving the needs of working men and women by bringing higher
education to workers and preparing union representatives for the
challenge of leadership in the global economy. The college receives a
significant amount of its funding through union dues paid by working men
and women from throughout the world.
