| Vacationing Cambridge Fire Fighters Save Drowning Man in Mexico February 8, 2012 -- Two Cambridge, ON Local 499 fire fighters vacationing in Mexico are being hailed as heroes after they pulled a drowning man from the turbulent waters of the Pacific Ocean. “I think these guys should get recognition for what they did,” said James Chubb, a Toronto man who witnessed the rescue late last week in Ixtapa. “They took a risk and they saved this guy’s life.” Mike Pauze and John McCalmont were staying with their wives at the Presidente InterContinental Ixtapa Resort when their holiday took a dramatic turn.

| Fire Fighter ‘Brotherhood’ Watches Over Family of N.C. Fire Captain January 17, 2012 -- Will Caviness ran. He ran to work in the morning. He ran home at night. He ran pushing his baby daughter in a stroller — 15 miles at a time. He ran in the sweltering summer heat — 95 degrees and humid. And he could fly — six and a half minutes a mile. He ran the Chicago marathon on October 9. Will was running fast — on pace to finish the 26.2 miles in just over three hours. His wife, Jenny, snapped a portrait of Will, his last. Caviness, 35, of the Greensboro, North Carolina Fire Department collapsed and died a few hundred feet from the finish line where his wife and brother waited to celebrate with him. When Jenny got word that Will was taken to Mercy Hospital they rushed there in a cab. Chicago Fire Commissioner Robert Hoff hurried there, too.

| Toronto Fire Fighters and Burn Unit Staff Share Special Bond December 26, 2011-- It's not surprising that the Toronto fire fighters who pull victims from burning structures and the health care workers who treat those patients at the Ross Tilley Burn Centre of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre have a special relationship. That bond was on display when dozens of hospital workers gathered in front of the centre to welcome members of the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters' Association who were handing over a holiday gift.
