The General Secretary-Treasurer serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the IAFF and supervises all financial activities, reporting required for federal and state authorities, human resources and general administration, and membership services.

Online Learning

Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference . Stop by the General Secretary-Treasurer's booth at the Legislative Conference, March 25- March 29 in Washington, DC. Staff from the IAFF Budget and Finance Department will be available to answer your questions on union financial and membership records management.  You will also be able to sign up for online per capita statements.  We’re offering a bright red IAFF aluminum water bottle to treasurers who sign up for email only per capita statements. 

Ask the staff for resource materials to assist you in your role as a union leader.  Available in CD format.

IRS identifies organizations that have lost tax-exempt status.The three-year 990 compliance grace period for 501(c)5 organizations expired October 15, 2010.  Since then, the IRS has published a list of organizations whose tax-exempt status has been revoked for failing to meet their filing requirement. Per Capita statements are available online. Over 300 locals are making their Per Capita payments online. You can save time and be sure your payment arrives on time by signing up for online Per Capita payments. Affiliate leadership can register their local by sending an email to Membership@iaff.org. Provide us with your local number, email address, and contact phone number. The Membership Department will contact you to complete the process.

HazMat/WMD Training

We've assembled a number of documents to assist you in managing your local. You will find materials on financial responsibility, accounting best practices, payroll and tax information, applying for tax exempt status, IAFF forms and general resource information.

Affiliate leaders can access Board minutes electronically to review the proceedings of the of the executive board committees and general session. Minutes from the September, 2011 Board Meeting are available in the library.
