ROUNDTABLES
Roundtable Sessions will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each session will be an open forum, where participants will have the opportunity to present questions and discussion on important safety and health topics. These are informal sessions and are not pre-assigned. All registrants are invited to attend one session each afternoon.
Tuesday, November 10, 2009: Roundtable Sessions
1. Writing Winning Grants Roundtable:
Fire Act,
AFG, SAFER and Beyond
Grant
funds are available to help fire departments pay for safety and
health equipment and programs, apparatus, staffing and training.
Learn the fundamentals of how to apply for a grant.
2. Fire Fighters Cancer: The NLC/TriData Paper
Discuss the rebuttal developed by the IAFF for
the flawed NLC/TriData paper on cancer presumptive laws. Get
answers to you concerns on the unique risks fire fighters face,
which unfortunately, result in a significant correlation between
fire fighting and fire fighters developing occupational cancers.
3. Fire Apparatus Safety
You heard the program; the roundtable will provide a further
opportunity to get answers to your questions from the experts on
apparatus specifications and procurement, standards development,
accident investigations and components of the IAFF and USFA
programs.
4. Ask the Doc: The Physician Roundtable
An open roundtable discussion on the medical needs and physician
involvement in fire department occupational health and medical
programs. This is an opportunity to further address issues
addressed by physicians presenting during this symposium.
5. Ask the Coordinators and Proctors: WFI/CPAT
Discuss the all the updates in the 3rd Edition of the WFI, including protocol changes and implementation tools as well as the 2nd Edition of CPAT, including new orientation requirements, data collection and the new licensure policy.
6. Ask the Statisticians and Programmers: WFI Data Collection
Discuss the updates to the IAFF WFI Medical Data base collection system. Learn about our current project with the University of Maryland, which upon completion will allow the transfer of data from a fire department's medical data base system to the IAFF database. There will be opportunities to address the IAFF occupational health and cancer registry.

4,000 Peer Fitness Trainers. This
open roundtable provides the opportunity to network and discuss
successful strategies for fire department fitness and wellness
programs.
