Thank you for your interest in the IAFF's Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction Training programs.

The IAFF's Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction Training programs offer several unique advantages. Trainees learn common-sense strategies to recognize hazardous materials, prevent or minimize exposure and defensively control the incident. These strategies can help lower disability and workers' compensation costs. Because the IAFF receives all of its funding from the U.S. government, it is able to offer this curricula at no cost to your department.

Additionally, the IAFF provides a team of professional instructors from across the country who are active fire fighters/EMS personnel/HazMat Team Members. The curricula is taught to fire fighters by fire fighters. Current U.S. grant restrictions limit the training delivery to responders within the United States.

To request training, IAFF affiliates must provide a request letter signed by an IAFF local president and the fire chief. The letter should contain a brief explanation of the need for training in your area, a general timeline for delivery, the number of students and a contact person for course logistics, such as a training officer.

How to Request Overtime and Backfill Cost

The IAFF provides materials for indirect training courses via the IAFF website. Indirect training is training conducted by individuals who have previously participated in an IAFF TtT program or are certified and qualified by their employer to deliver the program.

Upon course completion, receipt of the student registration and survey forms and a letter from the host local president verifying the delivery of the course, the IAFF will supply course completion certificates.

Sample approval letter you'll receive when your request for indirect training is approved.
