Cheyenne Local President Honored by the Wyoming AFL-CIO
December 23, 2009 – During the Wyoming AFL-CIO annual
convention, the 2009 Wyoming State AFL-CIO Labor Leader of the Year award was
bestowed on Cheyenne, WY Local 279 President Jon Narva.
Narva received the award in recognition of his efforts, in his
capacity as Federated Fire Fighters of Wyoming Government Affairs director, to
lobby for improved workers’ compensation and to re-energize the state’s
Southeast Central Labor Council.
Narva says he’s humbled by the honor. “I have been working hard
with other members of the state’s labor movement to ensure all workers have a
voice. Together, we have accomplished a lot, but there is more to do.”
Narva was first elected to a labor leadership position on the
Local 279 Executive Board just 10 months after becoming a Cheyenne fire fighter.
He has served in the role of Grievance Committee chair, vice president and, for
the last four years, as president. Additionally, Narva has held the position of
governmental affairs director for the Federated Fire Fighters of Wyoming for the
last two years.
