New Mexico Fire Fighters Visit Senator Domenici

March 20, 2008 – Members of the New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters Association (NMFFA) met with U.S. Senator Pete Domenici during the IAFF Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference in March in Washington, DC. The New Mexico delegation included Farmington Local 2850 President John A. Davis, Sante Fe Local 2059 President David Jenkins, NMFFA President Emily Kane and Deming Local 4251 President Kenneth McFaul.

Domenici, who serves on the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for funding local public safety grants, encouraged local communities to apply for FIRE Act grants. Congress has allocated $560 million for the 2008 grant program. In 2007, several New Mexico communities – including Deming, Lordsburg, Pinos Altos and Dona Ana County, received money for their fire departments.
