Registration Opens April 1 for Portland Firefighter Stairclimb
March 22, 2013 – Portland, OR Local 43 is hosting its 5th Annual Portland
Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge to raise money for the Oregon chapter of the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on September
22, 2013. Last year, almost 300 fire fighters from across the country raised
$124, 487 for the Foundation.
Registration opens April 1. The first 50
participants to register online will receive a Leatherman Z-REX rescue tool.
Participating fire fighters will wear full response gear, including PPEs, as
they race up the 40 flights of stairs of the U.S. Bancorp Tower in downtown
The event was founded by retired Local 43 fire fighter Wes Loucks after both
his grandsons were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, an inherited chronic disease
that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults
in the United States.
