Former UFA President Michael “Mickey” Maye Dies
February 19, 2013 – The Uniformed Firefighters Association
(UFA) Local 94 has reported the passing of former UFA President Mickey Maye
February 15 in Boynton Beach, Florida.
UFA President Steve Cassidy says, “On behalf of the Executive Board and the
members of the UFA, we express our deepest condolences to the family of Michael
Maye. He will be remembered as an extraordinary leader in very challenging
times.”
Michael Maye was assigned to Ladder 31, located on Intervale Avenue in the
Bronx. In 1968 he was first elected president of Local 94 representing New York
City’s rank and file fire fighters, serving until 1973. He was later elected to
serve again as UFA Local 94 president from 1975-1977. These were very turbulent
times, as New York City was in severe fiscal distress and fires were rampant.
Maye leaves behind sons Mike Maye Jr and Daniel Maye, who are serving as New
York City fire fighters.
The UFA offers its prayers and condolences to the Maye family. Services will
take place in Florida but details are not available at this time.
