October 4, 2012 – The United Democratic Campaign of Alameda County, California,
is honoring Alameda Local 689 and Hayward Local 1909 with the 2012 “Democrats of
the Year” award. The honor, which is traditionally given to an individual, was
awarded to the two IAFF affiliates to properly recognize their dedication to
local and regional political races.
“We are very proud to receive this honor,” says Local 689 President Domenick
Weaver. “We are all focused on the goal of ensuring that the future of Alameda
County is the best it can be.”
“Our members are donating a lot of time and effort -- not just toward local
candidates, but also to statewide concerns, such as Proposition 32,” says Local
1909 President Jason Livermore. “This is recognition for all of their hard
work.”
Proposition 32 is a statewide ballot initiative which seeks to, among other
things, limit the voice of union members. Both locals are actively involved in
the “No On Prop 32” campaign.
