FDNY Hockey Team Ends Season With Games in Moscow
April 12, 2012 – For the second consecutive year, the FDNY Hockey Team –
comprised of members from the Uniformed Firefighters Association Local 94 and
Uniformed Fire Officers Association Local 854 -- will face the EMERCOM Hockey
Team of Russian fire fighters and police officers later this month.
The first game was held in Brooklyn in 2011 during New York City’s Russian
Heritage Festival. This year, the FDNY Hockey team will travel to Moscow.
“These exhibition games are a way to build camaraderie among fire fighters,”
says FDNY Hockey Team General Manager Bill Kammerer.
The New York team will be in Moscow Thursday, April 26 for a reception at the
American Embassy. The two teams will then engage in three games that weekend.
“Our regular season will wrap up just before we leave,” says Kammerer. “We
hope to finish our year with a win against EMERCOM.”
Sponsors of the event include the
Russian American Foundation,
the United
States-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission,
Russia’s Group Ten Development and the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
