Great Falls Fire Fighters Raise $9,500 for Cancer Research
December 17, 2010 – After delegates at the IAFF 2010 Convention adopted a
resolution to encourage affiliates to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness
Month campaigns, many IAFF locals organized pink T-shirt campaigns to benefit
various cancer charities.
Great Falls, MT Local 8 raised more than $9,500 for two local charities –
Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute and Women Against Breast Cancer.
Local 8 fire fighters wore pink for the first week of October – Breast Cancer
Awareness Month, but sold T-shirts on their Facebook page and at various
business locations.
“This was our first year doing this fundraiser,” says Local 8 President David
Van Son. “We were really overwhelmed by the support we received from the
community and hope to do it again next year.”
Local 8 donated the money between to the two charities and presented checks
during a ceremony at the Great Falls Fire Department headquarters.
Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute provides services that address the mental,
physical and spiritual needs of cancer patients. Its mission is to deliver
superior cancer treatment, services and support through comprehensive programs.
Women Against Breast Cancer (WABC) is an organization local to the Great Falls
area started 13 years ago to provide breast cancer awareness, prevention and
