San Bernardino Fire Fighters Donate $10,000 in Food to Charity
December 7, 2010 – San Bernardino City, CA Local 891 fire fighters delivered
a grocery store truck full of holiday foods and staple items (about $10,000
worth) to the Mary’s Mercy Center, a
non-profit organization that provides food and other services to those in need.
The money used for this charity event and others comes directly from the fire
fighters’ pockets. “We have a lot of generous members within our local,” says
Local 891 President Scott Moss. “They usually donate between $45,000 and $65,000
annually for our charitable efforts.”
Local 891 gave the money to local grocery store chain – Stater Brothers --
which took the money to stock one of its trucks. The chain added another $500
worth of food items on top of the $10,000 donated by the local.
After the food was delivered to the center, fire fighters worked with center
staff to hand out filled boxes to the hundreds of people waiting in line.
