Dixon, 74, died July 10, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Friends
and family honored him shortly after his passing in Fort Myers, Florida. In
addition, at the 50th IAFF Convention in San Diego, delegates passed a
resolution in recognition of all of his accomplishments on behalf of the IAFF
and Virginia’s fire fighters.
On the Convention floor, IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger said,
“Duane was my dear friend. In 1971, even though I barely knew what I was doing,
he convinced me to take more steps and become more involved with the union. My
respect for him is profound.”
PFFV President Mike Mohler said, “He never aspired for greatness, he just loved
his union.”
Duane is survived by his sister, Delores Dixon, wife Sue, sons Matt Dixon and
Brian Gearty, daughters Debbie McMulholland, Amy Lowman and Jenny Williams and
five grandchildren. Click here
