Colorado Fire Fighters Battle Two Wildfires

September 16, 2010 – After several days of intense battle, Colorado fire fighters now report that the Fourmile Canyon fire located in Boulder County is 100 percent contained. But, that was not before the blaze destroyed 169 structures and charred 6,200 acres.

All residents evacuated during the fire have been allowed to return home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

At least 12 IAFF locals were instrumental in getting the fire under control. They include: Aurora Local 1290, Boulder Rural Local 4415, Castle Rock Local 4116, Colorado Springs Local 5, Denver Local 858, Littleton Local 2086, Longmont Local 1806, Mountain View Local 3214, North Metro Local 2203, Poudre Local 1945, South Metro Local 2164 and West metro Local 1309.

“I have reached out to our Colorado membership and have, thankfully, heard no report of significant injuries,” says IAFF 9th District Vice President Randy Atkinson. “Meanwhile, we are all watching the new fire – the Loveland’s Reservoir Road fire – which began September 12.”

The new fire, which is located in Larimer County, is 65 percent contained and has burned 740 acres so far. Two homes have been burned, but no others are in the current threat zone. The fire was started by accident when some area residents were burning debris.
