Australian and American Fire Fighters Run for 9/11

August 19, 2010 – Thirty-four runners are making their way across the United States with a final destination of New York City on September 11, 2010. The event – the Tour of Duty 2010 – was organized to commemorate the fallen fire fighters and law enforcement personnel who lost their lives on 9/11.

The event was organized by Melbourne, Australia, fire fighter Paul Ritchie, who says that even on the other side of the globe, fire fighters in his country were heavily affected by the events of that dark day. So, he recruited several fire fighters and emergency workers from Australia and the United States to make the run from California to New York.

IAFF members from Uniformed Fire Fighters Association (UFA) of New York Local 94, Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) of New York Local 854, New Orleans, LA Local 632, North Las Vegas, NV Local 1607 and Chicago Local 2 are participating.
