Fire Prevention Week Video Features South Portland Fire
Fighter
July 1, 2010 –Fire Prevention Week, sponsored by the National
Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is not until the week of October 3, but NFPA
is already planning for the big week.
IAFF affiliates that want to beginning planning their own
activities can visit the event’s
web site for resources, including a video featuring South Portland, OR Local
1476 fire fighter Jeff Rogers.
As part of its campaign theme, “Smoke Alarms: a Sound that You
Can Live With,” NFPA wanted to produce a video encouraging smoke alarm safety
and residential exit strategies in case of a fire.
After NFPA put the word out for a fire fighter to play a part in
the video, South Portland Local 1476 President Rick Lee suggested that fellow
member Jeff Rodgers had the perfect personality for the project. NFPA agreed.
The video is designed to be interesting to both kids and adults.
NFPA hopes that the video will be used in schools and at community-based events
to encourage the use of smoke alarms.
