Florida Fire Fighters Send Help to Nashville Flood Victims
June
3, 2010 – As 56 members of Nashville, TN Local 140 work to repair the damage to
their homes caused by last month’s flooding, fire fighters from other IAFF
locals are sending help. One of those locals is Deltona, FL Local 2913.
“IAFF 12th District Vice President Larry Osborne encouraged all
affiliates in his district to do what they could to help our brothers and
sisters in Tennessee,” says Local 2913 President Kurt Vroman. “Since we couldn’t
help with household repairs, we collected basic supplies.”
Local 2913 fire fighters notified the public about their
collection via the media and local government officials. Citizens dropped off
everything from bed frames to clothing at Local 2913’s central fire station.
Fire fighters then loaded up an 8 by 12-foot trailer with the
supplies and drove it to Jacksonville, the designated collection site for the
state of Florida. Supplies collected from around the state were consolidated
onto a semi-trailer and driven to Nashville.
