Silent Movie Features Florida Fire Fighters

June 2, 2010 – Ocala, Florida, fire fighters are featured in a silent movie newly released on DVD. The 1926 film, “It’s the Old Army Game,” is about a druggist who is having a bad day. When his store catches fire, Ocala fire fighters rush to his aid. Fire fighters are shown responding from the fire station and then, successfully, putting out the fire.

“We are very proud that Ocala Fire Rescue has been a professional fire department since 1885,” says Ocala Local 2135 spokesperson Brian Stoothoff. “This movie will be the first opportunity for some of us to see first-hand what emergency response was like in the early days of our department.”

The movie runs 105 minutes and features actors W.C. Fields, Louise Brooks, Mary Fox, Mickey Bennett and Elise Cavanna.
