Tip-a-Fire Fighter Raises Dollars for Connecticut Charity
March
3, 2010 – Bristol, CT Local 773 held its 2nd Annual Tip-a-Fire Fighter
fundraiser, grossing more than $3,000 for this year’s charity – the Boys and
Girls Club and Family Center of Bristol.
“Charity work and community service is a large part of what we
do as a local,” says Local 773 President Thomas Bentivengo. “With this
fundraiser, our goal is to help a charity that benefits the whole community.
Many of us grew up participating in the Club’s activities or receiving guidance
from its staff, so it seemed like the best choice for this year.”
Local 773 fire fighters worked with the management of the local
Chili’s restaurant to serve as wait staff for one night. All tips and donations
went to the charity.
In addition to wait service, fire fighters also raffled off
items ranging from Boys and Girls Club sports items to memorabilia from Denis
Leary’s “Rescue Me.” Local television personalities from WFSB Channel 3 – Scot
Haney and Teresa LaBarbera – were also on hand to encourage Bristol residents to
come to the restaurant for a good cause.
